SUMMARY:Kineton International Plugfest & HbbTV Testing Event
DESCRIPTION:Kineton is delighted to announce the second International Plugfest planned for this year in cooperation with the HbbTV Association. The Kineton Plugfest will take place from Monday\, June 22nd\, to Wednesday\, June 24th\, at the Kineton offices in Naples\, Italy. From June 24th to June 26th\, the HbbTV Testing Event and Testing Group meeting will follow. \nPlugfests provide a fantastic\, controlled platform for all participants to collaborate towards achieving interoperability and delivering an excellent user experience. \nInteroperability tests cover cutting-edge technologies such as UHD-4K/8K\, HDR\, HFR\, NGA\, HbbTV\, DVB-I and HDMI (2.0/2.1a/2.1b) interoperability with sources (STBs/streaming devices\, sound bars\, AVRs\, laptops\, encoders) and sinks (TVs\, projectors\, display monitors etc). \nThe Plugfest is open to all companies interested in testing/validating their AV products/software/content/apps interoperability & compatibility with others’ implementations. Participants include TV device manufacturers\, broadcasters\, technology providers\, platform operators\, encoder providers\, test equipment manufacturers\, research & development institutions\, standardisation bodies as well as HbbTV app\, HbbTV OpApp and DVB-I client developers. \nDate: June 22-26\, 2026\nVenue: Kineton offices\, via Emanuele Gianturco 23\, Naples\, Italy\nWho: Free for all HbbTV members. Nominal fee applicable for non-members. Attendance is strictly restricted to participants only. \nThe Plugfest is part of a week-long events\, which also includes the HbbTV Testing Event\, focusing on the HbbTV Test Suite v2026-2 validation\, and the HbbTV Testing Group meeting from June 24th to June 26th. The Testing Event is open to HbbTV members only. \nThe Plugfest provides an opportunity for the HbbTV implementers to execute tests on their devices and log those executions as part of the evidence required to approve test cases for the HbbTV Test Suite v2026-2 release. The representatives of test material providers will be available to discuss problems found with either the test material or implementation. The Testing Event participants will have temporary access to the test harness\, necessary for executing the test cases at the event. The test plan will be distributed to the event participants a day before. DESCRIPTION:The 14th HbbTV Symposium and Awards on 18-19 November 2026 in Barcelona\, Spain\, provides a unique platform to present and discuss the latest developments in the connected TV industry. The event takes place at the Catalonia Barcelona Plaza Hotel\, a four-star hotel offering first-class conference and accommodation facilities\, located at Plaza España\, one of the epicentres of the Catalan capital. \nThe 2026 Symposium is hosted by the HbbTV Association and 3Cat\, Catalonia’s public media corporation. With a track record of more than 40 years\, 3Cat is an industry leader thanks to a crosscutting offering that integrates television\, radio and digital content on the 3Cat platform. \nThe Symposium targets a wide-ranging audience\, including platform operators\, broadcasters\, advertisers\, adtech companies\, standards bodies\, regulators and technology vendors. A central theme at this year’s conference will be HbbTV’s role as a unifying framework in an increasingly fragmented connected TV (CTV) landscape\, where broadcasters must navigate a multitude of operating systems and device environments. \nThe agenda will also explore how HbbTV-based audience measurement can enhance traditional panel systems by providing more granular\, data-driven and even real-time insights\, supporting broadcasters’ need for accurate and scalable analytics. Further sessions will highlight the latest developments in addressable advertising and examine HbbTV’s growing adoption in new markets\, with the MENA region and Asian countries now embracing the open standard. \nThe programme will also feature sessions on accessibility\, natural-language interfaces powered by AI\, and the collaborative potential of HbbTV as a shared framework for broadcasters\, technology providers\, and manufacturers. Emerging audiovisual experiences will also be explored\, including deep personalisation through AI\, gaming on connected TV platforms\, second screen and XR-enhanced content\, and new forms of interactive viewer engagement. \nThe HbbTV Symposium and Awards 2026 continues the successful two-day format established in previous years. The first day will offer a traditional conference setting\, featuring keynotes\, presentations\, panel discussions\, and roundtables. Leading industry experts and executives will present\, showcase\, and discuss the latest developments\, innovations\, and use cases. \nOn the second day\, the event will adopt an unconference format. Attendees will actively shape the agenda\, proposing topics and leading breakout discussions in a collaborative and informal environment.
