13th FOKUS Media Web Symposium

The 13th FOKUS Media Web Symposium, hosted by Fraunhofer FOKUS, will take place in Berlin on 16-17 June 2026. This track explores cutting-edge technologies shaping media production and content generation. Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) are redefining creative workflows, while AI-based media encoding and advanced content analysis enhance efficiency and personalisation. Metadata-driven processes and Green Digital Twins enable sustainable and optimised media pipelines. Immersive experiences through XR, Metaverse, and Holo Conferencing highlight the convergence of virtual collaboration and storytelling. Energy-conscious encoding reflects the growing commitment to eco-friendly media creation.

Distribute

Distribution innovations focus on delivering media with speed, security, and adaptability. Protocols like DASH, HLS, and Media over QUIC (MoQ) enable low-latency streaming at scale, complemented by Content Steering for dynamic delivery optimisation. Edge and Cloud Processing, combined with 5G/6G networks, unlock ultra-responsive media experiences. Advanced monetisation strategies such as HbbTV Dynamic Ad Substitution, Server-Guided Ad-Insertion and Programmatic Advertisement drive new revenue models. Security and authenticity remain central through DRM and C2PA, ensuring trust in a rapidly evolving ecosystem.

This track addresses user experience and sustainable media consumption. Advances in video player technology and Quality of Experience monitoring ensure seamless playback across devices. Energy-efficient media players and green AI enable sustainable viewing habits, while Addressable TV personalises content delivery. Immersive XR and Metaverse experiences redefine interaction, supported by AI-based media solutions for smarter engagement. The focus on sustainability reflects a growing demand for responsible and user-centric media consumption.

Optimise

Optimisation technologies aim to enhance performance, sustainability, and transparency across the media value chain. Streaming Analytics and Advanced Analytics provide actionable insights for real-time decision-making. AI-driven optimisation improves delivery efficiency, while energy-conscious infrastructure and Green Streaming initiatives reduce environmental impact. Innovations like Green Content Steering and Content Provenance ensure authenticity and trust in media workflows. This track highlights the synergy between data, AI, and sustainability for next-generation media ecosystems.
