CSI Awards 2014 adds HbbTV category
23th January 2014
Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV (HbbTV) is an industry standard that aims to harmonise broadcast, IPTV and broadband delivery of entertainment to the end users through connected TVs and hybrid set-top boxes. Several years old now (the first version of the HbbTV spec was published as an open ETSI standard in June 2010), HbbTV is seeing not only strong growth across Europe will millions of supported devices on the market, but it is also getting traction worldwide. It has also evolved to support the likes of MPEG-DASH recently. This category aims to celebrate innovation coming from all sides of this sector, whether on satellite, cable, or terrestrial networks, and from operators, broadcasters and vendors alike. All technologies and applications – such as VoD, interactive TV, gaming and EPGs – can be entered here as long as they are HbbTV-based.
