HbbTV Statement Regarding Possible Security Concerns

GENEVA — June 26, 2014 — The HbbTV Association, a global initiative dedicated to providing an open standard for the delivery of broadcast and broadband services through connected TVs and set-top boxes, issued the following statement in response to recent articles based on academic research by Yossi Oren and Angelos Keromytis of Columbia University Network Security Lab suggesting security concerns with the HbbTV standard.

“HbbTV welcomes and appreciates the academic research on security threats in set-top boxes and TVs based on our specifications.
