HbbTV Symposium and Awards 2019 on November 21-22 in Athens
Geneva, May 13, 2019 – The 8th HbbTV Symposium and Awards will take place on November 21-22, 2019 in Athens, Greece. This was announced today by the HbbTV Association, a global initiative dedicated to providing an open standard for the delivery of advanced interactive TV services through broadcast and broadband networks for connected TV sets and set-top boxes.
The annual key event of the connected TV world targeting platform operators, broadcasters, advertisers and adtechs, standards organisations and technology companies will be carried out in conjunction with the Ministry of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Media of the Hellenic Republic and Greek public TV and radio broadcaster ERT.
“Following the very successful 7th HbbTV Symposium and Awards in Berlin in 2018, we are looking forward to updating the industry on the exciting HbbTV developments and discussing the latest market trends with TV professionals and top-level executives in Athens,” said Vincent Grivet, Chair of the HbbTV Association. “We are grateful for the collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Media of the Hellenic Republic and Greek public broadcaster ERT to host the 8th HbbTV Symposium and Awards in the Greek capital, offering a great opportunity to carve out the future of television in a unique historic ambiance.”
Dr Lefteris Kretsos, Deputy Minister of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Media of the Hellenic Republic, said: “We firmly believe that Hybrid Broadcast Broadband Television is a strong technology that will expand its user base in the near future. What is more, we are proud that Greek public broadcaster ERT introduced HbbTV to the Greek audience and is delivering top-quality content to more than 450,000 TV sets in less than 18 months since its hybrid platform’s launch. For these reasons, we are looking forward to welcoming the Hybrid Television community in Athens in November 2019.”
The speeches and presentations will include reviews of the first commercial rollouts of the game-changing HbbTV OpApp, the latest HbbTV deployments worldwide, new features of the HbbTV specifications, HbbTV as an enabler of targeted and addressable advertising and further opportunities offered by HbbTV to broadcasters and platform operators for expanding their business and opening new revenue sources.
Following last year’s event in Berlin, which recorded a record-breaking attendance of over 300 participants from 27 countries, the HbbTV Symposium and Awards 2019 in Athens will host the third edition of the HbbTV Awards, featuring a wide range of categories designed to acclaim best practice and excellence in the HbbTV community.
Details regarding the Call for Speakers, offering compelling opportunities to present your activities, developments and views to a high-level audience of industry executives at the HbbTV Symposium and Awards 2019, and the Call for Entries to the prestigious HbbTV Awards will be released soon.
