The HbbTV Association and IRT Announce the 20th HbbTV Interoperability Workshop

 

GENEVA — Nov 19, 2014 — The HbbTV Association, a global initiative dedicated to providing an open standard for the delivery of broadcast and broadband services through connected TVs and set-top boxes, in association with IRT is pleased to announce the 20th HbbTV Interoperability Workshop, which is to take place on December 9th and 10 th at IRT headquarters in Munich Germany.

The Association extends an invitation to all HbbTV application developers and manufacturers of HbbTV products. As part of the workshop, IRT will provide live feeds with HbbTV signals via satellite, cable and terrestrial plus test signals throughout the two day event. Additionally, the HbbTV Testing Group will hold a testing event the two days following the workshop on December 11th and 12th to review and approve new materials for the HbbTV Test Suite and this will be open to all HbbTV members.

“The response to past Interoperability Workshops has been very positive and we’re looking forward to growing participation at the upcoming event,” stated Klaus Illgner, Chairman of the HbbTV Association, “Earlier workshops have been attended by developer companies from all over Western Europe and we’re looking forward to making this one a success.”

Hybrid broadcast broadband TV (or “HbbTV”) is a global initiative aimed at harmonizing the broadcast and broadband delivery of entertainment services to consumers through connected TVs, set-top boxes and multiscreen devices. The HbbTV specification is developed by industry leaders to improve the video user experience for consumers by enabling innovative, interactive services over broadcast and broadband networks. The specification uses elements of existing specifications from other standards including OIPF, CEA, DVB, MPEG-DASH and W3C. In June 2014, the activities of the Open IPTV Forum (OIPF) were transferred to the HbbTV Association. This broadened the HbbTV Association’s mandate to include defining specifications for service providers and technology suppliers that streamline and accelerate deployment of IPTV services.
