Winners of HbbTV Awards 2023 announced

Naples, November 29, 2023 – The HbbTV Association, a global initiative dedicated to providing open standards for advanced interactive TV services through broadcast and broadband networks to connected TV sets and set-top boxes, has unveiled the winners of the HbbTV Awards 2023, showcasing and celebrating excellence in the HbbTV community.

The winners of the HbbTV Awards 2023:

Best use of HbbTV for advertising-based solutions
Media For Europe (MFE – Mediaset España): Server-Side Targeted Advertising for Linear TV (Spain)
Jury quote: “A brilliant use case of the combination of the power of live broadcasting to massive audiences with the efficiency of digital targeted advertising.”

Best tool or product for HbbTV service development or delivery
bmt on behalf of the German DVB-I Pilot: German DVB-I Pilot – Opening a new era for HbbTV delivery (Germany)
Jury quote: “Essential work putting the pieces together and merge broadcast and streaming.”

Best technology innovation in an HbbTV product or service
ZDF & TeraVolt: ZDFmediathek: Zapping (Germany)
Jury quote: “This looks simple, but it is an advanced HbbTV feature, providing an excellent user experience.” 

Best marketing or promotion of an HbbTV-based service
TV Nova: TN LIVE (Czech Republic)
Jury quote: “An inspiring example of a new channel relying on the broadcast audience of other channels with blue button pop-up messages allowing viewers to switch directly to its live OTT broadcast.”

Judges’ Award: HbbTV newcomer of the year
Video Solutions AG: wedotv.com (Italy)
Jury quote: “The idea of bringing FAST Channels into HbbTV represents a launching pad for this technology and expresses all the still unexplored potential of this standard, opening the doors to new ways of doing business.”

“We are excited about the winners of the HbbTV Awards 2023, with both established and new market players providing great examples of innovative, next-generation services enabled by the HbbTV specifications. Congratulation to the winners!”, said Vincent Grivet, Chairman of the HbbTV Association.

The winners were selected by an independent jury of international industry experts. A total of 26 submissions from 7 countries were received during the call for entries.

The prizes were awarded to the winners at a glamorous ceremony on November 28, 2023 as part of the 11th HbbTV Symposium and Awards in Naples, co-hosted by the HbbTV Association and the Italian digital TV association Comunicare Digitale.
